Adaptive-Mobile Content Protection

The AdaptiveMobile filter allows operators to protect against Spam, Viruses and undesired content. Inspection capabilities range from virus analysis through to a range of image and other media content analysis.

Increasing usage is key to meeting operators' data services revenue targets. However the introduction of new services has caused concerns within corporate/business and retail subscribers:

Web Protection

As subscribers demand broader content from the mobile internet, operators are forced to open access outside of their network. However, with under 18’s being the growth market for new connections and mobile content revenues, operators are increasingly expected to protect vulnerable users, such as children, from the inappropriate or offensive content that may be found including chat, diet and hate sites; and from infringement of their privacy.

By implementing the AdaptiveMobile PolicyFilter (Mobile Web), operators are able to:

  • Block access to websites for specific groups, such as kids, based upon content policies that have been defined specifically for each of those groups;

  • Redirect blocked requests to other websites that will inform the user of why their access is being blocked and providing instructions about what can be done to regain access to blocked content;

  • Allowing adult subscribers to opt-out of filtering if they are willing to go through an age verification process;

  • Provide parents with the tools to determine the freedom of access they wish for their children;

  • Provide corporate customers with the ability to set and monitor Acceptable Use Policies, and manage enterprise mobility.

  • AdaptiveMobile’s PolicyFilter (Mobile Web) is a robust, high performance, highly scalable, subscriber-centric platform for rules-based filtering and access control.

  • The PolicyFilter (Mobile Web) contains an optimized filtering engine which can check content against a number of third party URL categorization databases (including Websense, Symantec, SurfControl, Rulespace), security / anti-phishing sites (Websense, Google) as well as provide support for multiple subscriber data stores (Oracle, LDAP and more).

Email Protection

Email has become a mission critical network application for every type and size of business. Spammers and attackers are using email as the most popular delivery mechanism to flood users with unwanted mail (spam) and attack corporate resources or steal information by infecting email messages with viruses, worms, Trojans, and other harmful applications.

By implementing the AdaptiveMobile PolicyFilter (Email), operators are able to:

Protect their network from being seen as a source of spam and being blacklisted by companies and other service providers. Just one infected user can potentially stop every subscriber from sending email as they share the same public IP addresses;

  • Identify and respond to infected users through the AdaptiveMobile Virus Recovery Engine;

  • Limit unnecessary network usage from unwanted messaging;

  • Offer different classes of security protection on mobile email services, depending upon corporate requirements or customer sign-up.

The PolicyFilter (Email) can be implemented to provide inbound and outbound filtering and incorporates the following features:

Virus and Spam detection can be implemented with a wide choice of third party engines – including automatic updating of Virus/Spam definitions;
Duplication of messages allows admin review of blocked or suspect items;

  • Notification by email, MMS, or SMS when Spam/Virus bearing messages are blocked;

  • Reporting function allows analysis of email volume, emails blocked, filtered/permitted;

  • Identification and blocking of malicious senders by MSISDN. Infected subscribers can be refused access to SMTP;

  • Maximum number of recipients (per SMTP server) can be set, thereby limiting Spam attempts;

  • Maximum Messages size setting allows you to restrict the size of messages that can be sent;

  • Throttling allows you to specify a minimum time-lag between TCP connections, determining the rate at which messages can be sent, and discouraging Spamming.

MMS Protection

Use of MMS to distribute adult content to under-age subscribers;

  • Personal harassment or bullying through offensive pictures;

  • Use to distribute illegal content such as child pornography, or to record evidence of child abuse;

  • Inability of corporates to control cost or limit MMS usage for approved purposes.

  • The spread of mobile malware via MMS

By implementing the AdaptiveMobile PolicyFilter (MMS), operators are able to:

  • Provide corporate subscribers with the means to manage corporate usage, cost and corporate responsibility.

  • Offer MMS archiving services to corporate subscribers.

  • Provide parental control functionality to their subscribers including anti-bullying blacklists, and filtering of unsolicited messages.

  • Meet regulatory or voluntary code of conduct requirements for limiting access to adult content.

The PolicyFilter (MMS) can be deployed as MM1/ MM3 / MM4 and MM7 proxies. It provides for filtering functionality including:

Traffic analysis to identify new network threats;

  • Personal blacklisting and whitelisting;

  • Text and URL content filtering;

  • Application type filtering;

  • Application and content signatures;

  • Image filtering through signature and third-party image analysis filters;

  • Spam detection algorithms;

  • Virus filtering of MMS attachments.
